Welcome back to our blog series featuring local entrepreneurs and businesses. Today, we bring you an exclusive peek into the Copper Leaf Boutique, a distinctive women’s clothing store in our community. With its eclectic blend of boho, country, and business casual clothing, the boutique has rapidly captured the hearts of many locals. We spent some time with the store’s founder and owner, Barbara, for an intimate look at what drives her business.

Behind the Copper Leaf Boutique

Born and raised in our community, Barbara decided to switch her career from education to retail, unveiling her passion for clothing. With her background in retail, she knew precisely what the women in our community desired: a unique shopping experience. Barbara explains, “It’s not about selling clothes to me; it’s about making connections and being part of the community.” She believes in providing unique clothing that you won’t see in malls or other businesses in town.

From Clicks to Bricks

The Copper Leaf Boutique journey began online in 2020 and quickly transitioned into a brick-and-mortar store. While Barbara acknowledges the importance of digital presence, she feels the physical store has become the heart of her business. “It’s the physical store,” she says, when asked about her main income stream. “People love how it looks, feel comfortable coming in, and appreciate the pricing.”

The boutique presents an assortment of clothing that caters to various demographics. Ranging from boho to country, with a hint of business casual, the shop has something to offer everyone. She says, “We’re a little bit boho, a little bit country, and some business casual thrown in for fun.” Barbara insists that anyone from 12 to 90 can find something appealing at her boutique.

Community and Commerce

Barbara firmly believes in supporting and being supported by the local community. For her, being a business owner isn’t just about financials; it’s about being part of and enhancing the community. “My mission is the fact that all of my product comes from the States,” she says, emphasising her commitment to maintaining uniqueness in her store. Barbara also believes in giving back to the community, whether it’s supporting local 4-H groups or the food bank.

Furthermore, Barbara prides herself on showcasing local artists and businesses in her store. From beautiful photographs by a young local photographer to locally made candles, Barbara’s approach underlines her belief in women supporting women and businesses promoting other businesses.

The Power of Connections

Perhaps one of the most remarkable aspects of the Copper Leaf Boutique is the space it creates for women to build each other up. Barbara often witnesses customers helping each other choose outfits, sparking body positivity and community spirit. She sees her role as not just a seller of clothes, but as an experience provider.

As we concluded our chat, Barbara left a powerful message for our audience and her customers, “Believe in yourself, and everything is in reach. Everything is a possibility. This community will stand behind people if you stand behind the community.” This statement perfectly embodies the essence of the Copper Leaf Boutique: a business committed to the community and empowering women through retail.
